Boehmite Overview

Boehmite (Boehmite) is also known as soft diaspore, the molecular formula is γ-AlOOH (hydrated alumina), is the precursor of γ-Al2O3, it and diaspore (the main component of α-AlO (OH)) are important components of bauxite.

Dispersion, uniformity and stability are the key prerequisites for Boehmite to exert its superior properties as nanomaterials. Boehme prepared by sol-gel method has the advantages of small particle size, larger surface and pore volume. However, agglomeration is more serious in the post-treatment process. Many literatures have mentioned the use of surfactant to treat this problem, but it is difficult to achieve satisfactory results. The size distribution of boehmite prepared by hydrothermal method is narrow, and the degree of agglomeration of particles is small. By combining the advantages of sol-gel and hydrothermal synthesis, boehmite can be prepared by using organoaluminum alkoxide, and nano-scale boehmite with excellent properties can be obtained.

Boehmite was first discovered by German chemist Johann Boehmite in 1925, belongs to the bicone point group in the orthorhombic system, itself is a white crystal, due to the impurities contained in it, so that it is often yellow, green, brown or red spots, with glass or pearl luster, Mohs hardness of 3 to 3.5, specific gravity of 3 to 3.07. Boehmite, especially dispersed uniform nanoscale Boehmite, with its special chemical, optical and mechanical properties, will be more and more widely used in ceramic materials, composite materials, surface protective layer materials, optical materials, catalyst and carrier materials, semiconductor materials and coatings and other industries.

Ningbo Ji Micro Nano New Material Technology Co., Ltd. recently developed 3nm monodisperse nano-Boehmite powder/sol, which has the characteristics of small nanoparticles, high transparency, adhesive, thixotropic, easy dispersion, reversibility of water solubility, suspension, positive charge, adsorption, stability, etc., and has a wide range of applications.
